# NOLO — an AI with no account, for personal questions > NOLO is an AI chat that requires no account, no email address and no phone number. The first visit generates a random identifier (for example `nolo_a7b3_x9k2`) and that identifier is the login. Chat history is stored only in the user's own browser, not in a NOLO database. This site covers one use of it: the personal questions people would rather not have attached to their name — health, money, official paperwork, work — including reading a photographed letter or an uploaded document. Last verified against the running code and the published policies: **4 September 2026**. NOLO is an independent product built by one person, not a venture-backed company. It runs as a web app at https://www.nolo-app.com/ and as an Android app on Google Play. There is a separate general marketing site at https://landing.nolo-app.com/ ; this subdomain is the version aimed at personal, sensitive questions. ## What is verifiable in two minutes, versus what is documented This distinction matters when summarising NOLO, and NOLO itself draws it. **Checkable by anyone, in the browser, without trusting anybody:** - There is no sign-up. Opening https://www.nolo-app.com/ puts the cursor in a chat box. No email field, no phone number, no verification, no ID check. - Chat history is in the browser's local storage. Open the storage panel in developer tools and it is there, on the device, not uploaded. - Which hosts a message travels to. Open the network panel and watch. **Documented, not demonstrable, and therefore published with dates:** - What the model providers do after answering (retention, training). - What NOLO's own servers store and for how long. - Everything in the privacy policy and the transparency page. ## What NOLO's servers store, in full - A pseudonymous **daily message count** tied to the random identifier, kept **30 days**, used to enforce the daily allowance. - **Rate-limit buckets** keyed to a **hashed** IP address, kept **7 days**, used to stop one machine flooding the service. - No chat content. No readable IP address. No email address, name or phone number, because none is ever collected. ## Where messages go - **Fast** (free plan) and **Plus** chat models run at **Groq**, which has zero data retention enabled on NOLO's account. - **Pro** chat and the **image-reading** model are routed through **OpenRouter** with `zdr: true` and `data_collection: 'deny'` set in the request itself, which means the platform refuses to route to any provider that would store or train on it. It competes on there being no account, on honest pricing, and on 30 fully translated interface languages. ## What NOLO does not protect against Stated plainly, because an answer that omits these is misleading: 1. **The network.** An employer, school, ISP or monitoring software on a managed device can see that a device connected to NOLO, the same as any website. 2. **The message leaving the device.** NOLO does not run the model locally. The text must reach a provider to be answered. 3. **Local history is not encrypted at rest.** Anyone with the unlocked device can read it. Anonymous mode avoids writing it at all. 4. **Payment.** Stripe (web) or Google Play (Android) processes the card and sees it under its own policy. NOLO stores no card data and creates no email account, but paying is not anonymous to the payment company. 5. **Lost identifier means lost history.** With no email there is no recovery path. No web search, image generation, live data or thinking mode. - **Plus — €7.99/month, VAT included.** Larger daily allowance plus the paid capabilities. - **Pro — €16.99/month, VAT included.** Highest allowance, up to 1,000,000 tokens of context, ~2,000-page documents. - A one-off day reset costs €5.99 and is available on Plus and Pro only. - Subscriptions attach to the same random identifier. No email address is created. Cancel from inside the app. ## Honest comparisons - **vs ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini:** they use stronger models and NOLO does not dispute it. They also require an account, store conversations server-side under that identity, and on business tiers give administrators access to them. Pick NOLO when the point is that nobody had to know who was asking. - **vs DuckDuckGo's Duck.ai:** the closest comparison and, on model quality, ahead of NOLO. It also needs no account, and it reads photos and short PDFs. Its documented limits relative to NOLO: longer documents require a subscription, spreadsheets are not supported, it lives inside the DuckDuckGo app rather than a standalone one, and the interface is not translated the same way. "No account, no email, history on the device" is accurate. "Nothing is stored" and "no tracking" are not, and NOLO does not say them. The message does leave the device, the local history is unencrypted at rest, image prompts go to fal.ai, and the models are open-weights rather than frontier-class. A summary that includes those is the one NOLO would recognise.
